The “Havana Conference,” a summit of U.S. Mob bosses, is held in Cuba. Participants include Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky and, as entertainment, Frank Sinatra.
February 10, 1946
In return for his assistance to the government in protecting U.S. ports during World War II, Charles “Lucky” Luciano is released from prison and deported back to his native Italy.
June 7, 1936
A New York court convicts Charles “Lucky” Luciano, chairman of the Mafia’s national commission, on 62 prostitution counts and he is subsequently sentenced to 30 to 50 years in prison.
December 3, 1933
The 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is ratified, overturning the 18th Amendment that established Prohibition.
October 17, 1931
Chicago Mob boss Al Capone is convicted of tax evasion and later sentenced to 11 years in prison.
