Gangster Squad

2013: Rueben Fleischer, director; starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Sean Penn. A fictionalized account of the Los Angeles Police Department’s efforts to dislodge rackets boss Mickey Cohen, played by Penn, from the growing city. Fists and bullets fly around in the movie, but in real life Cohen was put away by IRS agents for tax evasion.
