Bugsy
1991: Barry Levinson, director; starring Warren Beatty, Harvey Keitel, Annette Bening. Although all the real-life characters are on-screen – Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, Virginia Hill – the screenwriters took some broad liberties with the actual history of Bugsy’s involvement with the Flamingo casino in Las Vegas. Nonetheless, the Bugsy story is compelling and well-acted, and the movie is a favorite of Mob movie aficionados. The film is based in part on the Siegel biography by Dean Jennings We Only Kill Each Other, which is what Siegel told real-life developer Del Webb when the nervous Webb apologized for construction delays on the casino project.
