De Niro plays to type and for laughs in this sendup of mobsters and middle-class angst, with Crystal as the straight-man therapist to the Mob. Notable for referencing real-life Mob issues such as the Apalachin Summit; the murder of “Mad Hatter” Albert Anastasia; and the struggle for supremacy among surviving crime bosses Vito Genovese, Carlo Gambino and Joe Bonanno.
