This summer, an unmistakably tropical vibe returns to downtown Las Vegas with Hot Havana Nights, set for Thursday, August 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. Guests will celebrate the vibrancy of Cuban culture, including its delectable cuisine, the sounds of Cuban jazz, dances such as the conga and salsa, classic casino games, tropical cocktails and cigars.

The evening is inspired by the decadent Havana resorts of the first half of the twentieth century, which attracted everyone from celebrities and scions of industry to middle-class vacationers. Visitors were drawn to Havana by its permissive, sun-soaked, indulgent atmosphere—comparable to the one eventually associated with Las Vegas. By the ’40s, all Havana’s major resorts and casinos were run by U.S. Mob families from Chicago and New York, representing another dynamic replicated a few years later in Las Vegas. A variety of items from Cuba’s heyday as America’s playground are on exhibit at The Mob Museum.

CABARET FLOOR SHOW
A classic cabaret floor show will open the evening. Evoking the atmosphere of the Tropicana of pre-revolution Havana, the show will feature dancers in a 45-minute performance. The nightlife in pre-Castro Cuba was legendary. The cabaret at the Tropicana became an icon in the history of world musical and variety shows and the casino was known as the “most attractive and sumptuous nightclub in the world.”

ALBERTO MARTINEZ AND MUSICAL FUSION WITH ROSITA PENICHET ON VOCALS
Trumpet player Alberto Martinez and his band Músical Fusión will present Latin jazz music with their own special arrangements. Featuring Rosita Penichet on lead vocals. Enjoy the music or take part in dances such as the conga, rhumba, cha-cha and salsa.

HAND-ROLLED CIGARS
Aromatic and flavorful tobacco leaves, hand selected from Nicaragua’s Esteli ad Jalapa valleys. Watch Cigar Master Rollers with the Spirit of Cuba hand-roll tobacco to create one-of-a-kind, Mob Museum-label premium cigars. A keepsake from Hot Havana Nights.

CASINO TABLE GAMES
Table games such as baccarat and craps will again recreate in the Museum the sights and sounds of one of the casinos from Cuba’s years as the nightlife powerhouse in the 1950s.

SILENT AUCTION
From tickets to the hottest shows in town to staycations featuring world-class dining – and a spa day in between – bid on popular items in our silent auction with the added benefit of supporting the work of The Mob Museum, a 501(c)3 nonprofit museum.

“The tourist is caught in a heady torrent of rich laughter and swept along in swirling freshets of gaiety. The music is everywhere. Time is an endless round of dark rum and rhumba, light rum and marimbas, for Havana is the mistress of pleasure, the lush and opulent goddess of delights.” – as described in a 1956 issue of Cabaret Quarterly.

Hot Havana Nights is sponsored by Johnson Brothers of Nevada and presented in collaboration with the Cuban Heritage Foundation.
