The Massacre Tommy Guns: A Special Display of Historic Firearms
As part of The Mob Museum’s 10th anniversary, the two Thompson submachine guns fired by the perpetrators of the 1929 St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in Chicago will be on display. These firearms were used in one of history’s most infamous crimes, in which seven men were shot dead by assassins believed to have been hired by Al Capone. Although never prosecuted, Capone’s ties to the Massacre spurred a national outcry and his designation by the Chicago Crime Commission as Public Enemy Number One.
The Tommy guns go hand-in-hand with two permanent exhibits in the Museum: the bricks from the wall against which the Massacre victims were lined up and shot, and the ballistic evidence from the crime scene. The ballistic evidence proved that the Tommy guns, confiscated from a crime suspect’s home in Michigan, had been used in the Massacre.
Members of the Berrien County, Michigan, Sheriff’s Department, which possesses the guns, will explain the history and answer questions about these one-of-a-kind artifacts from the darkest day in Mob history.

The Museum will hold a screening of the 1997 film Donnie Brasco. A Q&A will follow with actor Robert Miano, who played capo Sonny Red.
