Serpico

Serpico

1973: Sidney Lumet, director; starring Al Pacino. Adapted from Peter Maas’ book detailing 12 years in the New York Police Department, the movie tells the real-life story of an honest cop, Frank Serpico, who is confronted with widespread and virtually institutionalized corruption, including compromising by the Mob, in the department. Ultimately Serpico is placed in physical jeopardy because of his crusade and is shot in the face; his testimony is critically important to reform efforts.
