The Godfather

The Godfather

1972: Francis Ford Coppola, director; starring Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, James Caan, Diane Keaton. With its sequel, which came out two years later, perhaps the greatest Mob movies ever made. It is the epic story of the rise and corruption of an American family through the experience of one of the family’s sons, the inheritor of his father’s New York crime family. Many real-life mobsters, such as Meyer Lansky as a fictional Hiram Roth, were reflected in the story line. The Godfather was nominated for 10 Oscars and won three, including Best Picture.
